EXPERIENCE & EXPERTISE
I work on a freelance basis for the English Verbatim Reporting Service at the United Nations. The role entails translating and transcribing the spoken word, editing the content for accuracy and making changes to adhere to style, syntax, grammar and parliamentary procedure. The role therefore requires a great deal of fact-checking to ensure absolute precision and correctness, especially with regard to the names of treaties and organisations, resolutions, reports and international agreements.
Translator, proofreader and subtitler for Clark Football Languages during the 2018 World Cup in Russia. I translated player interviews and press conferences from Spanish and Portuguese into English and also proof-read the content produced by other translators before creating the subtitles for media footage.
Interpreter for a Chilean mechanical engineering company specialising in tribology. I provided consecutive interpreting to facilitate communication among the company directors, technical experts, HR management and prospective employees in a series of candidate interviews.
Conference interpreter at the seventh international conference of La Vía Campesina. I provided 25 hours of simultaneous interpreting from Spanish and Portuguese into English during a week-long event in the Basque Country. The international conference is the organisation’s highest decision-making forum, gathering approximately 700 participants from 4 continents.
Interpreter for the Colombian Caravana Law Group on their delegation visit to Colombia to investigate human rights violations, with a particular emphasis on protecting human rights defenders. I travelled to Colombia for 2 weeks to provide consecutive and liaison interpreting bidirectionally between English and Spanish in meetings with lawyers, victims of human rights violations, advocacy groups, human rights defenders and members of the Colombian authorities.
